30 Jan Injection overmolding of the cervical margin
Performed by: Marco Maiolino DDS
Abstract
The case is the restoration of a small mesial decay but the patient complained about food entrapment due to poor contact point . The tooth is mesially tilted. Doing a conventional composite restoration in these cases exposes to over contour the proximal restoration and give scarce support to the new marginal ridge , thus the high risk of fracture of the composite . Injection overmolding of the cervical margin is a clinical solution to improve the anatomy and support of the marginal ridge.
#1 Pre operative view of a maxillary first molar
#2 Cavity cleaned and wedge (positioned from palatal in order to avoid pushing the matrix on the margin)
#3 Ring application and matrix stabilization with some flowable.
#4 Final restoration with injection molding technique
#5 View of the new anatomy of the inter proximal wall
#6 Closed view of the overmolding of the cervical margin.
